Workplace: Mental Health for Self is Mental Health for All

Post Categories

Inclusion is not a buzzword simply going around to shift an organization's culture; it's a by-product of well self-care. When an individual (no matter the role in an organization) is mentally, physically, and emotionally well resourced, the ability to practice inclusion, diversity, and equity comes easier and more powerfully. What better way to sustainably grow retention and engagement?

Here are eight areas of life worth exploring to develop a Self-Care Action Plan, whether that's for yourself or the individuals on your team:

  • Intellectual
  • Environmental
  • Occupational
  • Emotional
  • Community
  • Physical
  • Financial
  • Spiritual

Develop the plan by brainstorming people, programs, and activities in each domain. If you're a visual learner, draw a large circle on a piece of paper and make a pie chart for all eight domains (also known as a wheel of life). If you are a list maker and love excel, create eight columns for each domain and color coordinate away! Make it your own, in a way that inspires you to resource and reference this plan when times are tough and brainstorming capacity is low. Well-resourced individuals are those who can care for themselves and those around them well.
